Top 5 Best MotoGP Crash Snapshots !


Although the advent of MotoGP meant a significant drop in the number of high-sides compared to the 500cc 2-Strokers era, many riders have still come to grief aboard the ultra-powerful 1 Litre four-stroke machines. Neo-Riders have selected what we think are top 5 of best crash snapshots, caught by the world's best snappers over the last decade of MotoGP.

Colin Edwards Crash, Assen 2006


 Yamaha's Colin Edwards, The Texas rode a valiant race, leading the first 24 laps with Hayden pushing him the entire way on Assen GP 2006. On the final lap, Edwards muscled his way past Hayden, who had taken the lead on the previous lap, and retook the lead briefly as the two went through the chicane. The move forced Hayden to go straight and sent Edwards off into the grass - as the Yamaha pilot twisted the throttle of his M1 a bit early he was spit off and sent sprawling to the ground, ending his chase for the win. Meanwhile, Hayden recovered and went on to claim his second career victory in MotoGP and a historic 200th for Honda in the premier class. What a dramatic one !


 Marco Melandri Crash, Motegi 2005



Melandri would lead all the way to lap 11, when he began to lose pace and was passed by both Biaggi and Capirossi at Japanese GP 2005. He then fell further back towards Rossi and on "unlucky" lap 13 the 9-times world champion tried what looked like an unusually rash overtaking attempt at the end of the back straight - which saw him ram the rear of Melandri's machine after appearing to outbrake himself ! However, Rossi would later claim that he hadn't been trying to overtake Melandri, who was left needing medical treatment as a result of the impact, but again repeated his apology for causing the accident...


Marc Marquez Crash, Mugello 2013



Spaniard Marc Marquez escaped serious injury after crashing at 175mph in practice as world champion Jorge Lorenzo topped the timesheets in Mugello, 2013. Marc Marquez, The Incredible 2-Times World Champion, lost control of his Repsol Honda at the end of Mugello's long straight and slid down the grass verge. Marc confirmed, that he lost control of the bike at 198mph and came off at 173mph...





Dani Pedrosa Crash, Sachsenring 2008



This is the spectacular accident that cost Dani Pedrosa, the race (Sachsenring GP 2008), and world championship leading points on Sunday in Germany. Despite traditionally preferring dry conditions, the Repsol Honda rider blasted to a seven second lead with five laps of the wet Sachsenring race - but then lost the front as soon as he touched the brakes for turn one. Pedrosa and his Repsol-Honda RC212V speared off track at high speed. Pedrosa was eventually stopped by an air fence, while his Honda was launched high into the wire fance, before coming to a rest... Scary one !


 Jorge Lorenzo Crash, Shanghai 2008


 The 2-Times MotoGP World Champions, Jorge Lorenzo, needed lengthy treatment and an MRI scan at the Huashan hospital in Shanghai, where he was diagnosed with a fractured left ankle, plus serious trauma to his right ankle and tibia... After crashes on his 12th lap, and on his first flying lap on a new Michelin rear tyre at Shanghai GP 2008. And yes, He's Flying...
