Its no longer a secret that Yamaha is working on a naked-bike version of the YZF R25, which is speculatively called the MT 25 by the Indonesian media. Earlier this week, Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing’s (YIMM) Executive Vice President, Mr. Dionysius Beti, confirmed that the naked motorcycle will launch this year.
In October last year, a report stated that Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM) would commence production of a new yamaha motorcycle called the MTN-250. Based on the R25, a street-fighter such as the MT 25 would certainly help Yamaha realize the volumes of scale, and chances of the two bikes sharing assembly lines are very likely.

Apart from the design changes (without fairing, plus extra reargrip, see pic above), Yamaha will also fine tune the riding position to better suit to the streetbike riding dynamics. The Yamaha MT 25 will dump the clip-on bars for a more conventional single piece and wide handlebar that will endow the rider with an upright and comfortable riding stance. The New Yamaha Motorcycle will carry forward the Steel tubular diamond type frame, suspension setup, and brakes from the YZF R25. Since the MT 25 would be devoid of any fairing or extra bodywork, expect it to be lighter than the Yamaha R25’s kerb weight of 169kg.

Providing firepower will be the same 249cc, parallel-twin, 8-valve, liquid-cooled, diasil cylinders motor as seen on the YZF R25 that pumps out 36 PS (35.28 HP) @ 12,000 rpm, and 22.6 Nm maximum torque @ 10,000 rpm. It is expected that the Japanese two-wheeler giant will tune the New Yamaha Motorcycle to suit the streetbike dynamics of the MT 25 which would result in a drop of power output but hike in the torque figures. The motor will be mated to a 6-speed transmission.
Yamaha Indonesia added that the launch of the naked R25 is just a matter of few months, and is expected to be introduced post Eid (which takes place in the third week of July this year). He was reluctant to provide further details on the motorcycle as to its engine and styling. But one thing for sure, The Newest Yamaha MT 25 will be priced lower than the R25 as well.
