According to Yamaha Motor Co., the problem is with the shift cam segment stopper on the transmission shift shaft. This inner edge of the segment stopper should be rounded with a smooth radius where it bends. On affected units, however, the edge is sharp. After continued use, the stopper may crack at the sharp edge due to fatigue from concentrated stress. If not identified, this could result in the inability of the rider to select gears.
The recall was launched on Tuesday and is thought to affect a relatively small batch of 2015 editions of the FZ-09, R6 and Super Ténéré XT1200Z. According to the notice, the remedy is to 'recall all affected machines to replace the gear shift shaft with a new remedial component.
